Appello aiming to continue its vision of improving outcomes for the most vulnerable in our communities through further investment in Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring services.
With growing demand for community care, the need for local authorities and care providers to increase return from existing resources has never been greater.
Thousands of care hours are delivered every day across the UK. However, almost all take place with no insight into the sleep, nourishment and movement patterns of an individual since the last visit. Nor any near real-time health and wellbeing indicators. This inevitably means these care visits are not always achieving the optimum outcomes, despite the time involved in travelling there and the best intentions of the care workers.
Likewise, housing teams can be more effective with better insights into the wellness of the property – for example changes over time in humidity, damp, legionella risk, heat (or lack of etc), toilet usage, air pollution etc.
Appello’s new Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring combines leading innovations, technologies and service providers, to deliver data-built insights into people and property. These insights enable staff to make to make informed decisions, structure visits and priorities both the needs of the individuals and the care provider. This offers a greater capacity to meet a growing demand and better outcome for our society.
Speaking on the launch, Tim Barclay, CEO at Appello explained: “Increasing the resources invested in care in the UK is challenging, however the ability to increase the output from the resources already delivered is much more achievable.
“Utilising leading innovations from Appello, and our range of partners, to proactively monitor people and properties can deliver real change. Through providing richer intelligence, we can enable the delivery of the right care, at the right time and in the right place at the best cost. As a result, we believe we can enable the housing and care sector to reach more people in the community, whilst improving outcomes for those receiving care.”
What is Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring?
For over three decades, Appello have been delivering call monitoring services – from providing vulnerable individuals with life critical support in an emergency, through to delivering valuable reassurance and assistance out of hours when a property issue arises, such as a flood.
Our specialist operators are always available at the end of a line, be that via a phone call, or through an emergency alarm. However, these services are reactive, they are about delivering an effective response to ensure the best outcomes, once the event has already occurred.
Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring, as the name suggests, uses a wide range sensors and IoT devices to proactively gain insights into an individual, and/or property, to enable services to be optimised. Through trend and deviation analysis we can identify opportunities for early interventions, as well as highlighting where and when to best deploy resources for maximum effect.
Through doing this, we believe we can alleviate some incidences and, in some scenarios, prevent them from happening at all. As a result we can create even better outcomes for those vulnerable individuals and the organisations and people who support them.
Changing the delivery of care
Indicators such as knowing whether an individual has taken their medication and eaten breakfast, to understanding that they had a bad night’s sleep and have low blood pressure, will equip care providers with important insight into how and when to deliver their services.
Attending a property where the individual has only just gone to bed after a bad night’s sleep isn’t a great experience for the individual or the carer. Having this foresight would enable that visit to be rescheduled for a more appropriate time, and another individual potentially being seen that morning. Likewise, a visit to check on medication consumption would be prevented by monitoring this remotely, providing capacity for a care visit to another person in need.
These are just a couple of examples whereby proactively monitoring an individual can redetermine the requirements for care and allow resources to be used most effectively.
How does Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring work?
As Appello customers know, our approach is to always be an open environment, and work with the best in breed technology from across the sector. Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring is underpinned by this ethos.
We have developed a range of partners, all with specialist expertise and market leading innovations, from those with knowledge in tracking vital signs and mental health to those who specialise in monitoring the built environment. Each innovation provides important insight into the wellbeing of an individual, and/or property, from tracking mobility around the home, to the condition of where they are living.
Proactive Wellbeing Monitoring creates packages of these innovations, specially tailored around an individual and their personal circumstances. This could be supporting someone returning home from secondary care, or a vulnerable individual with cognitive impairment.
Through our bespoke applications, AppelloSBR and CareNet EVO, we are able to combine and manage the data from these sources, into a single picture which provides a holistic window into the wellbeing of an individual and their environment.
This view is used to deliver proactive intervention, delivered through our specialist careline team and the individuals wider care network.
