The Appello Group, through our Appello and Careline365 brands, has been at the forefront of delivering better TECS solutions to its customers for many, many years. Due to our commitment to quality, innovation and value for money, the Group monitors more Telecare devices than any other provider in the UK, answers more calls successfully and provides more genuinely digital TECS devices.
Over recent years we have achieved a number of very significant milestones for the sector, including introducing the first fully digital-capable call handling platform over a decade ago and Smart Living Solutions (SLS), the first – and still the market-leading – fully Digital TECS system for improved wellbeing and increased safety in communal retirement living. SLS has won multiple awards and is helping improve the quality of life and independence of over 50,000 people in the UK. But we never rest on our laurels and have also recently introduced SmartLife, the fastest-connecting digital dispersed alarm, as well as a number of other SmartTEC ground-breakers.
We have done all this innovation while all the same time meeting or exceeding the Quality Standards Framework (QSF) set by the TSA, the industry body. That is why no other TECS company has more experience, scale or credibility than Appello to help our customers migrate from analogue to digital TECS, or to use their digital TECS to improve care cost effectiveness and deliver better customer outcomes.
Our current CEO, Tim Barclay, has been instrumental in driving this commitment to quality, innovation and value for money during the 6+ years he’s been at the helm. Having grown the business from less than 200 employees to over 600 and won multiple awards along the way, Tim has decided it is the right time to handover the baton and so we are today announcing he will be leaving the Appello Group later this month, once we have completed the smooth handover to his successor, James Thorburn.
We’re delighted to announce James Thorburn as Tim’s successor. James is a proven leader who has built successful businesses and teams in both care and technology. He comes to us from City & County Healthcare Group, which under James’ leadership has grown to be the leading independent provider of community-based care services in the UK, including elderly care, clinical care and support for those with learning disabilities. City & County now has over 12,500 employees and provides 80,000 care visits every day to people in their own homes. Prior to that James was at Serco plc, where he was responsible for Serco’s justice and immigration services in the UK, delivering vital services for society for both central and local government. He has also had successful Executive roles at De La Rue plc, US industrial conglomerate PPG Industries, and the software business Misys plc.
Tim commented:-
“I have absolutely loved my time with the company and am very proud of what we have achieved in that period. The experience of the current management team and James‘ leadership credentials mean we are uniquely placed to continue to deliver both the award-winning Digital TECS services that have set us apart to-date, as well as the future innovations the sector will need in the months and years to come.”
James commented:-
“I am delighted to be joining the Appello team. My focus will be on continuing to assure the safety of those who depend on our service and maintaining the very best services for all our customers.”
