Appello partner with housing sector to launch digital telecare health check

Digital Telecare Healthcheck, an online resource for the housing provider community, has been launched by two leading members of the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) industry.

Housing LIN (Learning and Improvement Network), the sharing network for those working in specialist housing and care in England and Wales, and Appello, the provider of technology enabled care solutions, are partnering to support the new online tool, designed to guide housing providers in their progression towards digital telecare. Additionally, the TSA, the representative body for technology enabled care (TEC) services has shown their support for the online tool.

“Clear information on transitioning from analogue to digital networks is certainly something that our industry needs to ensure that we are providing effective support to housing providers who are looking towards a digital future. The TSA welcome initiatives such as the Digital Telecare Healthcheck that aim to educate our sector during this time of significant change.” commented Alyson Scurfield, chief executive of TSA.

In 2017, telecoms providers announced they will be switching off their long-serving analogue telephone (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) networks, moving to a digital network ready for the future. For housing providers, analogue telecare devices will cease to work effectively over the next few years, as digital services become the standard.

Digital Telecare Healthcheck provides advice from leaders of the TEC industry for housing providers moving to digital telecare. It offers recommendations, from ensuring the compatibility and safety of telecare equipment over the new digital telecoms network to creating a digital telecare strategy.

Jeremy Porteus, the Housing LIN’s CEO says. “I’m delighted that, during a time of unprecedented change in the delivery of technology in supported housing, the Housing LIN can play an important role in providing access to a one-stop shop for simple, clear and credible information and share sector best practice in going digital”.

Tim Barclay, CEO of Appello says, “During this period of uncertainty, many housing providers are apprehensive about transitioning over to a digital network. This guidance aims to support housing providers in their digital journey from analogue to digital, so that they can embrace the myriad of benefits digital telecare provides, while helping to avoid making costly mistakes.”
